The Cottage

Woodman’s Cottage, Stainforth, Settle, North Yorkshire

Woodman’s Cottage is a 3 bedroomed stone cottage in the traditional Yorkshire Dales village of Stainforth near Settle.

With 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and 1 bunk bed room) it can accommodate up to 4 adults and 2 children.   One well behaved dog is very welcome – all we ask is that you keep him/her off the furniture and the beds.   They are more than welcome to curl up in front of the stove, however.

We are also a non-smoking property.

The cottage has been recently refurbished (June 2020) and is available as holiday accommodation. The downstairs living room features solid oak beams and beautiful oak doors can be found in every room in the house.  With a new multi fuel stove installed in the heart of the living room, the cottage also features a new kitchen, utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as a garage housing a pool table and table tennis table for those rainy days, and of course we have fibre broadband/wifi.

There is a pretty, stone walled south facing front garden and wraparound garden with flower beds and seating for those long summer evenings. At the rear of the property there is a paved area with space for 2 cars.

Lounge & Kitchen

The beautiful blue country kitchen features an integrated fridge and freezer, a Neff electric oven and induction hob plus extractor.  There is also a dishwasher, microwave oven, kettle and toaster.  Being keen cooks ourselves we have tried to think of everything you might need for your holiday – from corkscrew through to 3 frying pans (it’s a holiday after all!) and big and little teapots (tea cosy) and 2 cafetieres. We think its pretty perfectly formed and stocked for everyone.   Solid oak work surfaces and holiday-friendly engineered stone tile flooring finish off the kitchen really nicely.

The living room features a dining area with a custom made recycled oak dining table with matching bench and 4 refurbished vintage Ercol Quaker chairs all housed in its own little dining area next to the kitchen with oak double doors between the rooms if required.

The main living room includes a wonderful multifuel stove, 2 sofas (3 seater and a 2 seater), sisal carpet flooring, sideboard, occasional tables and a variety of lighting available.  There are a selection of throws and cushions for added comfort as well as games and books for evening entertainment.  Of course, there is a tv and this one is a 4k HD Smart TV including Netflix, Freeview and much more.  We even have a bright red replica vintage push button telephone!

There are modern independent electric radiators throughout the property including the bedrooms, providing you with the flexibility to be able to have on demand heating where you need it.

The front entrance hallway includes racks and hooks for shoes and coats, engineered stone tile flooring and an under stairs storage area (which is perfect for us to keep our bits and pieces).

We also have a Utility Room to keep the washing machine and tumble dryer ready for action when required, along with an iron and ironing board. With more hooks and racks for dirty shoes and coats and more engineered stone tile flowing through the downstairs it’s a great area when dealing with kids and dogs in particular after a day out in the Dales.   There’s even a boot warmer for you to use!

Completing the downstairs there is a garage with double doors out to the parking area and single door to the Utility Room.  Whilst it’s a functional area – its perfect to keep the bikes (we have bike stands for example), walking poles etc – we have also included a pool table/table tennis table for those rainy days.

Bedrooms & Bathroom

Moving upstairs there are 3 bedrooms and a bathroom.

Our number 1 bedroom (Whernside) includes a teal coloured fabric double bed with an Eve mattress and Snuggledown duvet and pillows to help achieve that perfect night’s sleep.  There is also a fitted triple wardrobe, a mid-century style chest of drawers, two bedside tables with lamps and a flatscreen Freeview TV.

The number 2 bedroom (Ingleborough) features a grey coloured fabric double bed with a memory foam mattress, Snuggledown duvet and pillows and Orla Kiely bed linen.   There are two bedside tables with lamps and an oak and grey chest of drawers.

The third bedroom (Pen y Ghent) is our bunk bed room.  The bunk bed is oak and features a chunky ladder that has integrated handles to make climbing them easier, and glow in the dark strips on each ladder for night visibility and fun.  It also has built in shelving!  They are much nicer than the ones I remember as a child, and they are standard UK single mattress size to boot.   There’s also a chest of drawers in the room to help keep the kid’s clutter under control. Downstairs we also have child friendly cutlery, plates and bowls.

The new bathroom has recently been fitted (Nov 2021), including a new hot water system. It has vinyl flooring, WC, bath with shower, washbasin and heated towel rail.
